President’s Message

Happy New Year to everyone! We are now halfway through the CSI year (July thru June) and while it has been a good year thus far, there is still much work to do and interesting events to come. I hope all of our members will be able to increase their participation, whether it is to make it out to more meetings, play in our spring golf outing, or even serve on a committee that interests you.
Thanks to a strong outpouring of support from our sponsors, our 5th annual Holiday Gala on December 14 was once again an enjoyable success with approximately 80 in attendance.
If you missed this month’s meeting on the 11th due to the weather or other reason, you missed an excellent tour of the Matthew Bronze Plant. Chapter member Larry Justice, an architect with Matthews Gibraltar Division, arranged an outstanding visit that began with a brief presentation of the company’s history and capabilities, then continued into touring every stage of the production facility from start to finish. From the software that enables high resolution transfer of images to bronze, to the pouring of the molten bronze itself into sanded molds, our tour seemed to reach into every recess of the warren of workspaces and sophisticated machinery that is the Matthews Bronze Division.
In February – the month in which CSI Pittsburgh traditionally gets rocked with nasty weather – we will be convening at our “home base,” Cafalo’s in Carnegie, for a presentation on the International Green Construction Code. This is the real deal, folks - - it is a Code which IS going to happen - so you will want to attend this timely presentation to learn how the IGCC will affect your particular aspect of our industry. Our speaker will be Maureen Guttman, AIA, Executive Director, Governor's Green Government Council at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Maureen has participated in the writing of the IGCC and knows its ramifications as well as anyone. Hope to see you on February 8th!
